Mixed Media: Cultural Inspirations (Fall 2016)

Many artists have found inspiration and meaning in the visual approaches and techniques of other cultures. Think of Picasso, Matisse, and Gauguin and the creativity their aesthetic curiosity provoked in their work! This course explores the artistic practices of specific cultures in Bali, Australia or Africa as a direct means of expanding our visual vocabularies and personal expression. Drawing, painting, clay and monoprinting. Pre-requisite: Some experience in drawing or painting.

Printing without a Press (Fall 2016)

The most accessible printmaker’s workshop for artists who would like to bypass the need for a printing press and be able to continue working at home. Explore the fascination and spontaneity of print images, including the suggestive second pull or “ghost print”. Tools include brushes, rags, watercolours and stencils and fine print papers. You’ll produce several works throughout the day. No artmaking experience necessary.
